Summary

Cleveland Browns defensive end Isaiah McGuire and linebacker Winston Reid visited pediatric patients on the seventh floor of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland on Oct. 13, stopping in rooms to hand out Browns-themed blankets, talk with children, pose for photos and sign a Browns flag. The team reported that center Elgton Jenkins and running back Quinshon Judkins also took part in the University Hospitals visit, meeting patients at UH Seidman Cancer Center. The visit was tied to Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer, the NFL initiative focused on cancer screening, early detection and support for people affected by cancer. University Hospitals has partnered with the Browns since 2014, and the team said the annual football-season visits have been part of that partnership.

Why it matters

The demonstrated help here was direct, in-person support for people facing hospitalization and cancer treatment: time with current players, conversation, photos and team blankets. That does not prove medical or long-term emotional outcomes, but it did place the athletes inside patient-care settings where families could receive attention and encouragement during difficult treatment routines.
